Summer Camps 2012
Offering a broad variety of media and techniques, Chelsea Center for the Arts' Summer Camp program includes options for elementary, middle and high school students. Taught by warm and friendly, credentialed instructors, there's sure to be something to tempt every budding artist!
- HALF DAY (morning OR afternoon session): $120
- FULL DAY (morning AND afternoon session): $235 (if your child is registered in consecutive camps during the same week- Please call office for $5 discount)
- Students should bring a packed lunch with them for full day camps.
NO NUTS PLEASE.
- Student's grade is as of April 1, 2012.

SESSION 1: June 25-29 |
Middle School Students
Jewelry
9am - noon: Students will design and create decorative and functional objects. The work produced may include wearable art, jewelry or small sculptures. Instruction covers the fundamentals of tool use and studio safety. Instructor: TBD

Drawing Fundamentals
9am - noon: This camp introduces students to the fundamentals of drawing, with emphasis on line, composition, scale and perspective. Students will develop skills and gain confidence!

Digital Photography
12:30 - 3:30pm: Students strengthen skills and techniques to move to the next level using his/her digital camera to photograph people, landscapes and other subjects with creativity. This class requires a $10 materials fee.

Art Discovery (K-2nd Grade)
9am - noon: Discover the exciting world of art through drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media projects, with each day focusing on a new materials and processes to foster creative expression and develop art-making skills.

All About Me: Myself (3rd-6th Grade)
9am - noon: Investigate and express your unique inner person, through painting, drawing, collaging, printmaking, and other techniques and materials, and writing to accompany your artwork. Final work will be publicly displayed!

Recycled Art (K-2nd Grade)
9:30am - 12:30pm: Experiment with a variety of materials, including bottles and caps, magazines and aluminum, and other found bits and pieces, to create your own environmentally friendly art!

Youth Ceramics (3rd-6th Grade)
9:30am - 12:30pm: Students learn to shape clay in their hands, using coil, slab and sculpting techniques. This class works on various projects that use the demonstrated techniques, but allows for personal exploration. This class requires a $15 materials fee.

Multicultural Art Sampler (K-2nd Grade)
9am - noon: This camp explores the many diverse art traditions from around the world, and unique techniques used by other cultures. Students create works of art through paintings, printmaking, collage and more!

All About Me: In My Community (3rd-6th Grade)
9am - noon: Learn more about how you fit in your community through art projects created with recycled materials and “found objects.” Create a book with personal writings and drawings, and help create “trees” made from cut and painted water bottles, which will be publicly displayed!

9am - noon: Students use a variety of materials and fabrication processes to create mixed media works. Projects are designed so that students can convey their personal ideas and artistic approaches.

All About Me: My Country & Me (3rd-6th Grade)
9am - noon: Learn how the history of your country has contributed to making who you are. Looking at the early artists of America, students explore the style and artifacts of southwest Native Americans, and create their own textile designs, “Spirit Doll,” and book of personal drawing and writings.

Fibers and Fabrics (K-2nd Grade)
12:30 - 3:30pm: Dye, dip, cut, weave, and paint to create collages and other works with a variety of fabrics, fibers and other materials. This class encourages students to communicate their visual ideas, learning the principles or art and strengthening technical skills.

Portfolio Development
9am - noon: This is a pre-college course, for students wishing to develop a portfolio for college admissions and scholarships. Work is reviewed, and individualized instruction is provided to help students reach their goals, and create portfolio quality work.

9am - noon: This drawing course provides a foundation to drawing anything! The class covers the fundamentals of 1, 2 and 3 point perspective, circles and ellipses in perspective, and shading – all essential to moving on to draw more complex forms!

Chelsea Children’s Choir Summer Camp
3:00-4:00 pm
No need to audition!! Director Sarah Price helps children discover the joys of singing together in this popular program. Young singers develop friendships and build a solid foundation of choral singing through shared music-making.
