Singing & Dancing

Jr. Show Choir Camp with Lisa Hinz-Johnson

Ages 8-13
August 31, 9am-11am - CHS Choir Room
September 2, 9am-11am - CHS Choir Room

Young singers and dancers will experience firsthand the Glee-style show choir phenomenon sweeping the country. The camp focuses on music and dance styles similar to CHS' own Co. C. Stage presence, healthy vocal production, diction, vocal technique, and an intro to choreography will highlight this workshop, assisted by members of CHS' Co. C. Refreshments will be provided! (Open to the first 40 students who register.) 

Cost:  $50

Please note that the CCA strongly discourages nuts in the building. Please keep this in mind when packing your student's lunch and snacks, thank you!

 

Piano Camp

88 Fingers! Summer Piano Camp with Lester Castellana

Ages 5-8
Monday-Friday, August 30-September 3, 10am-11am

Finally, an opportunity to try the piano without the commitment of weekly lessons!  This group-piano camp teaches students hands-on how to find their way around a keyboard, while they play together and for each other.  Students will be introduced to the basics of fingering, rhythm and reading music while they learn to play children's songs or invent music of their own. This is a great way to test the musical waters! (Open to the first 8 students who register per session.)

Fiddle Workshops

Fiddle Faddle with Rebecca Appert

Ages 3-7
Saturday, August 21, 11:00am-11:50am

Fiddling fun for beginning string players with less than a year of playing experience. Youngest fiddlers will learn a fiddle tune or two, while learning about musical ideas and fiddle styles in this small group class. Students must bring their own instruments and have at least six months of experience. (Open to the first 8 students who register.)

Chop 'til You Drop! with Rebecca Appert

Ages 7-12
Saturday, August 21, 12:00pm-1:00pm

More fiddling fun for young string players with a year or more of playing experience. Children will learn fiddle tunes and techniques, while mastering 'the chop', beginning improvisation, and playing by ear in this small group class. (Open to the first 8 students who register.)

Cost:  $22

Jazz

CCA Summer Jazz Camp with Alex Anest

Monday through Friday, August 30- September 3, 10am-3pm
Performance is at 2pm Friday

This week long camp is a great opportunity for aspiring jazz musicians to learn the basics of improvisation, form, and melodic and harmonic jazz concepts. Students will be placed in a small group where they will learn how to play together, how to improvise through chord changes, and how to arrange tunes. Jazz history will also be covered. There will be a performance at the end of the week.  

This camp is open to woodwinds, brass, strings, singers, guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. Musicians must provide their own equipment.

Materials needed – Your instrument, pencils, staff paper; Bring your own Brown Bag Lunch!

Cost: $250
